MUNNAR, KERALA, INDIA, JAN. 18, 2009
My fiancée and I decided to escape the lowland heat and humidity of Kerala’s coast for the mountains around Munnar. Our five-hour, bone-rattling bus journey ended on the side of a rocky road, where we were dropped off at a quaint, family-run homestay. Tomy, our gracious host, gathered our packs and poured us a cold, refreshing beer. He suggested we walk up the road to a lookout for sunset. Weary from our travels, we wondered if the excursion would be worth it, but soon the early wisps of sunset colors began stretching across the sky. In awe, we watched hills glow, and soon forgot all the trouble and aches it had taken us to get to that moment.
